Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim has been taken to hospital after being hit in the back of the helmet by a bouncer during the final day of the first Test against New Zealand.

As physio staff from both sides attended to the 29-year-old just after midday on Monday, an ambulance drove on to the Basin Reserve to transport him to Wellington Hospital.

Mushfiqur, who was already batting with injured fingers on both hands, had been subject to a number of short balls from the New Zealand bowlers.
